It wasn’t that long ago that a trip to the corner video shop was the most convenient way to get a movie. Now, with internet usage exploding, movie downloads are becoming very popular. Let’s look at what you might find to watch using a movie download site.
Border Shootout: Ignorant rancher is made deputy in Arizona boundary town that’s tired of aging sheriff Ford; however the townspeople’s lynching of supposed rustlers brings about instant conflict. Here is an excellent Western plot from the Elmore Leonard novel that is wrecked by amateurish production. Cast includes Cody Glenn, Jeff Kaake, Glenn Ford, Elizabeth Rohovit, Michael Horse, Russell Todd, Michael Ansara, and Michael Forrest. (110 minutes, 1990)
Rocky V: Rocky has retired from boxing. A brain injury from his last fight makes continuing impossible. He becomes a trainer, and his first pupil, Tommy Gunn, leaves him because he won’t move him up quick enough. After winning the title with another trainer, Tommy wants to fight Rocky to gain respect. Since Rocky isn’t allowed in the ring, they will have to do it as a street fight.
Jurassic Park: Billionaire Attenborough asks paleontologists Dem and Neill, and mathematician Goldblum to examine his island entertainment park, populated with living dinosaurs. He even has his grandchildren tag along, peacefully skeptical that anything might go awry. Slam-bang thriller is loaded with action, anticipation, hair-raising chills, and landmark visual effects: the dinosaurs appear real. It won three Oscars, for Graphic Outcomes, Noise, and Noise Outcomes Revising. Cast includes Sam Neill, Laura Dem, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Bob Poke, Ariana Richards, Samuel L. Jackson, and Wayne Horseman. (126 minutes, 1993)
King Lear: This rendition of the Shakespeare catastrophe might be bulky going for the uninitiated, although the result can be a hefty and gratifying experience. Cast includes Paul Scofield, Irene Worth, Jack MacGowran, Alan Webb, Cyril Cusack, and Patrick Magee. (137 minutes, 1971)
Red River: One of the best American adventures is a Western Mutiny on the Bounty. Clift rejects the dominance of Wayne (radiant in an unsympathetic role) throughout a key livestock drive. Captivating photography by Russell Harlan is coupled with an exciting Dimitri Tiomkin score. A movie you need to see. If you don’t pay close attention, you’ll miss Shelley Winters dancing around a campfire. Cast includes John Wayne, Montgomery Clift, Walter Brennan, Joanne Dru, John Ireland, Noah Beery, Paul Fix, Coleen Gray, Chief Yowlachie, and Hank Worden. (133 minutes, 1948)
Ada: Dean Martin stars in this story of political corruption. With determination and commitment, a poor man finds his ways to riches in this politically based drama. Susan Hayward, Dean Martin, and Martin Balsam are the movies stars. (1961 drama Daniel Mann directs)
Lost Horizon: James Hilton’s classic tale in reference to 5 Individuals tripping into strange Tibetan land where well being, harmony, and longevity reign. After being shown in revised reissue prints for years, this classic has been repaired to its primordial magnitude-albeit few scenes are still missing, and are signified by discussion only, depicted with stills. Cast includes Ronald Colman, Jane Wyatt, John Howard, Edward Everett Horton, Margo, Sam Jaffe, and Isabel Jewell. (132 minutes, 1937)
Hills Have Eyes Part 2: Lame continuation has a group of motocross fanatics stranded in the desert, preyed upon by a primitive family. This is loaded with flashback footage from the 1977 film, containing one ludicrously alleging to be a memory by a dog. Cast includes Michael Berryman, John Laughin, Tamara Stafford, Kevin Blair, and John Bloom. (88 minutes, 1985)
Black Narcissus: Visually sumptuous, dramatically charged film, from a Godden novel. Nuns are trying to develop a mission in a remote Himalayan outpost among difficult visible and spiritual tests. One of the most amazing color films ever made (deserved Oscars for cinematographers Jack Cardiff and Alfred Junge). Scenes in which Sister Better Kerr recollects her prior life was eliminated from the US version. Cast includes Deborah Kerr, David Farrar, Jean Simmons, and Kathleen Byron. (100 minutes, 1999)
